The Answering machine song
I'm busy with kids and cousins right now, so in the meantime here's a little bit of real audio from my college days at O.U. (Circa-1991).
A few years back Jamey found a tiny old answering machine tape- I think I had saved for its sheer cuteness alone-and he wandered through it Homeland Security Style finding this little batch of messages. I had perhaps been staying with my parents in the city(40 min away from my apartment) when this guy was trying to reach me. I swore he was always just a friend, but I did realize much later that he had a "thing" for me all along. I guess it was that When Harry Met Sally kind of thing about how guys can't just be friends. I don't know.
ANYWAY, this was on J's blog so I thought I'd share it wicha. He put music to the audio because it's joyously uncomfortable for men to hear. And of course, it's great fun for me as well. TEE HEE! Sorry John. We all had our embarrassing times from those dating or not-so-much dating days. Have a listen!

oh shannon, that is great. good job! Good job J!!! i loved it.
I have some of your messages on my machine in OKC still from long ago, and somewhere is a video with a seriously funny Sara message back in the AR day after she moved.
write me sometime an email I'm waiting for some comment on my other comment.. etc.
later.
Oh, hee hee he hee hee, Shan!
What a brilliant idea! Jamey is a genius.
That was awesome and insane!! Oh gosh, I would have sooo fast forwarded that one. He just goes on and on...
I wonder if any of our fun messages are still on like:
"shannon and sara are not home now, but we'll be back soon, leave a message at the tone, and we'll call you back..yeaaaahhhhhh" ( "if you' song...remember?)
That is hilarious Shan. I had to turn it off half way through though because I couldn't stand it! No wonder he was never more than just a friend. Verbal diarrhoea extraordinaire!
Shan, that is so funny!. The poor man. The music makes it even better. I bet the guy never thought his ramblings would be listened to wround the globe years and years later. hee hee
Sara I think it's slowly coming back. Could you sing it once more I couldn't hear you very well from here.
And I know Scout. And I would feel soooo bad if this guy ever found my myspace page or facebook and found my blog. Sorry Johnnyboy! It was a long time ago.
I remember that one Sara is talking about--it was your rendition of the the Spin Doctors, wasn't it?
Good job, Mr. Clay. And hurrah me, having an aircard that could actually LOAD the thing up in less than a fortnight, for once.
I am SO glad that you didn't end up with him, because I had to stop the message halfway through. It was either that or fall asleep! What a die hard talker!
Oh yes the spin doctors! Thank you Blue.
IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOOOOOOWWW! That was my rendition of Selene Deon's song.
And Mme and Maria you probably heard most of it-That little arrow on the play line fooled me into thinking it was hugely long when I listened to it. The arrow only goes about a half inch along and then it's over. But yes, he wasn't really my type as nice as he was. He was just one of a three pack I waited tables with one summer and then hung out with all the time. :)
I am so sad for that guy....
Hi Shan - thanks for leaving the message. Sorry about the post - it was a joke and it will be disappearing any minute now. Will move your comments to the rabaul photos post.
I would be delighted to help your husband in anyway I can - just yell.
I am looking forward to reading your posts now!!!
Love the music with it. This was hilarious. And annoying. I also had to stop it before the end! heh heh poor guy.
this. was. awesome.
you crack me up!!!!!! i think we would be good friends if i lived where you are!!!!! :)
