This movie was EXTREMELY entertaining but mostly because Meryl and her man crew seemed to be trying way too hard at different points to be "musical". Meryl sang fine but tended to gesticulate wildly throughout the movie like an overly dramatic teen and it was too much even to be considered "campy". Oh, she WAS a trooper though.
I don't even want to get into the others. You'll see the awkwardness if you want to and hopefully you'll enjoy it to the fullest. I certainly did!
Speaking of uncomfortable performances, I'm racing out of town to make it to a rehearsal dinner of a friend of mine from the city. She asked me to SING at her wedding and my heart is beating faster just typing that. Yikes. Where did this stage fright come from? I'm dragging Jamey along to play guitar and sing with me to make it easier, but I'm getting Pierces bulging neck veins already and I haven't even gotten there yet! It's goint to take some prayer, and then I need to keep chanting " It's not about me. It's not about me...." to work out the nerves. That oughta do 'er! Now if I can just remember the words....
Ok then, just wanted to check in and say "HI!" since I haven't been making my rounds very well lately. Have a great weekend everyone!!

Shan, you are going to do great. You need to record it and post it on your blog!!!! I know your blog fans would love that =)
I agree heartily with Jenna-girl--you will SHINE, sunflower. I expect to hear a live version when you get home (for me and Jenna-girl).
And yes, yes, yes on the stinky Pierce and not-so-great Meryl. Blech. And the Colin Firth "twist" at the end--one of my new fave memories forever of us both screaming, "NOOOooooo." Hehe.
You're the solo girl, remember! You are going to do great!
Miss you tons and tons, dear.
Wow, what are you going to be singing? What an honour, to be asked to sing at a friend's wedding. You must have a beautiful voice Shan. Don't suppose you could post a recording on your blog could you?
Shan,
Just be yourself (as opposed to being me). People love you. And it's pretty cool you are doing it with Jamey.
Break a Leg!
You're singing at the wedding? Cool, Shan! There are probably only three things in this life finer than performing on stage and I forget what two of them are.
Don't worry. Enjoy!
Ummm... I didn't know you could sing. What's the song?
Look forward to hearing all about it.
And speaking of singing, I guess I'm going to come to Homecoming this year to participate in the Cathedral Choir reunion. Seems that a lot of my fellow lyrically-gifted mates are going to be attending also, so figured I'd join in on the fun. Hopefully I'll see you at the soccer game at least??
We'll tawwlk!
Well, we tried to record the song when we sang it for my parents but the phone rang and my Dad answered it and just held it out facing us for the rest of the song so I was kind of laughing and wondering who he was making wait through a whole song before getting to talk to somebody!
What a crazy weekend!! I don't know if I have any ability to write about it but I shall try soon.
Oh, and the song we sang was called "Unbelievable" by Craig David. The words described the relationship pretty well. We'll try to get a better recording and post it if you won't laugh or mock me too much. xoxo's
I look forward to seeing this on video of course as we don't make it to the theater often. Hope you had a great time in OKC.
Oh so you sing hey?! What an honour!!!!
I agree with jenna jean...... we'd love to hear you.
Sing your heart out sister! I saw Mamma Mia, the Musical. It was great live...the singers, the energy level was amazing. I could not imagine the movie. I don't know any of the actors names from the musical because it was not about names, stars, etc. The movie is about names, proven celebrities, can't possibly be as fresh....
My bff and I saw Mamma Mia and we both noted how Pierce sang his lines in this shouting voice that sounded like he was scared to death...
But, yes. Regardless...we enjoyed it.
I hope the wedding went well (I'm late here, so I'm assuming this is past tense)
I loved the movie because it was just plain fun. I saw the Broadway production over the weekend, though, and those people were true singers.
My daughter said that it looked like Pierce was going "poo" every time he sang. And darn if she didn't peg it perfectly. The strain . . . too much! Who wants to envision what James Bond looks like on the choo? Not ME, thanks all the same. Unfortunately, it's a picture I will never get out of head now.
Urk.
